– Dental casts: printed or in plaster
– Impression taking techniques: digital impressions vs analogical impressions
– Pliers selection: bird beak, straight plier, half round plier, etc
– Wires selection (0.7mm/0.0028, 0.8mm/0.0032, 0.9mm/0.0036)
– Minimum prerequisite of casts to construct functional appliances
– Protocols of wire bending. Basic wire bends:
- "U" turn
- Bend by 90°.
– Force application.The contact point of the appliance with the tooth:
- Bodily movement
- Inclination.
– Designing and positioning of the expansion screw on the functional orthopedic appliance
– Fabrication of Coffin spring
– Dealing with acrylic materials
– Grinding and polishing of acrylic.

Professor adjunto de Ortodontia e Ortopedia Funcional dos Maxilares na School of Dentistry da Arnaldo Jansen Faculty em Belo Horizonte, Brasil, e professor na School of Dentistry da Unicentro Promove. Seu foco clínico e de pesquisa abrange ortopedia funcional dos maxilares, disfunções temporomandibulares, oclusão dentária, medição de força de mordida, crescimento craniofacial e aplicação de bioengenharia e nanomateriais no desenvolvimento de dispositivos odontológicos.
Possui PhD em Mechanical Engineering com concentração em Bioengineering pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, UFMG. Sua pesquisa conecta odontologia e engenharia no desenvolvimento e validação de aparelhos ortopédicos funcionais, incluindo um estudo retrospectivo sobre resultados do tratamento com ortopedia funcional dos maxilares em pacientes com TMD publicado no Journal of Jaw Functional Orthopedics and Craniofacial Growth. É coautor do Atlas of Construction of Orthopedic Functional Appliances, edição em português. É membro da Academy of Dentistry of Minas Gerais.
