Aula 1.Missing Lateral Incisors and Bony deficiencies
This lecture explores the dilemma of treating patients with missing lateral incisors and bony deficiencies in the anterior maxilla.
The various treatment options are discussed, as well as the advantages, disadvantages and long term implications of the various options for treatment.
The main focus is on canine substitution as opposed to implant supported prostheses.
The consequences of placing implants with respect to age and infraposition are explored with reference to the contemporary literature.
Various nuances with respect to treatment mechanics when carrying out canine substitution are discussed.

Ortodontista em prática privada especializada em Joanesburgo, África do Sul, desde 1996. Foi Past President da South African Society of Orthodontists, SASO, em 2016 e foi eleito Honorary Life Member da SASO no mesmo ano. É diretor do Wertheimer Orthodontic Institute, uma iniciativa de educação continuada que oferece treinamento local e internacional em ortodontia interdisciplinar, terapia com alinhadores e manejo de maloclusões em adultos.
Participou do ensino de pós-graduação e supervisão clínica na Wits Dental School em Joanesburgo durante um período de 16 anos, de 1996 a 2013. Também foi Past Director da South African Dental Association, SADA. É autor de publicações em literatura ortodôntica revisada por pares e palestrante internacional sobre ortodontia interdisciplinar, manejo de sorriso gengival e tratamento estético guiado por alinhadores.
