Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Department of Prosthodontics and Orofacial Function at Philipps-University Marburg, Germany (1995-retirement). Specialist in prosthodontics, craniomandibular disorders (CMD), and orofacial pain with over 45 years of combined clinical, academic, and research experience.

 

Extensive clinical expertise in differential diagnosis of head, facial, and neck pain of dental origin, conservative treatment of CMD and occlusion-related dysfunctions, and complex prosthodontic rehabilitation of functionally and periodontally compromised dentitions. Former director of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Center for Dental Medicine at Marburg University, where he established comprehensive treatment protocols for CMD patients and geriatric prosthodontics.

 

Visiting Assistant Professor and Visiting Professor at the TMJ and Orofacial Pain Clinic at University of California San Francisco (1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996) working with Professor Charles McNeill. International lecturer presenting extensively throughout Germany and Europe on CMD diagnostics and therapy, occlusion concepts, implant prosthodontics, and treatment planning for complex cases. Co-editor of the dental journal "Teamwork" and member of editorial boards for multiple German dental publications including ZWR and Dental Dialogue. Member of the Academy for Practice and Science of the German Society for Dentistry (DGZMK) since 1990.

 

DMD from University of Göttingen, Germany (1986). Trained as dental technician (1977-1980). PhD (Dr. med. dent.) with dissertation on paraocclusal axiography in functional analysis (1987, University of Göttingen). Habilitation in CMD diagnostics and therapy (1994, University of Göttingen). Awarded the Kemptner Promotion Prize from the Working Group for Functional Diagnostics of the German Society for Dentistry (DGZMK, 1987). Named "Qualified Specialist for Prosthodontics" by the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Dental Materials (DGZPW, 1997).
