Non-surgical maxillary suture opening in adults

A recently finished survey on the success rate of this new maxillary expansion technique in adults shows a success rate of more than 85% in the age group between 20 and 54 years (n=34). Since the last 10 years we have finished more than 250 adult patients with sufficient expansion not needing surgical assistance. The four main reasons for this success seem to be the ideal anatomical location, the use of sufficient long and strong mini screws, the rigidity of the expander and a new force controlled polycyclic activation protocol.
