Over 30 years of academic and clinical experience in orthodontics. Former Thomas R. Bales Endowed Chair in Orthodontics at UCLA School of Dentistry (2013-2020), recipient of "Lifetime Achievement and Faculty Dedication/Excellence Award" (2019) and "Faculty of the Year Award" multiple times. Founder and CEO of Moon Principles Institute and Co-founder/Chief Innovation Officer of BioTech Innovations. Inventor of MSE (Maxillary Skeletal Expander), a micro-implant assisted rapid palatal expander enabling non-surgical skeletal expansion in adults.
International lecturer having presented in 37 countries with over 450 presentations on orthopedic corrections, temporary anchorage devices, aligner biomechanics, and airway management. Research focus includes 3D image analysis, finite element modeling, genome-wide association studies of craniofacial phenotypes, applications of 3D printing in orthodontics, and accelerated tooth movement. Co-Principal Investigator of AAOF Center Award Grant (2018) on "Standard Characterization of Clear Orthodontic Aligners." Keynote speaker at Spanish Society of Aligners (SEDA) Congress and Italian Aligner Society (SIALIGN) Congress (2021).
DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. MS in Orthodontics from UCLA School of Dentistry. Mathematics degree prior to dentistry. Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) since 2002. Recipient of Groundbreaking Research Project Grant Award from UCLA (2014). Co-author of six textbooks. Published extensively in peer-reviewed journals across multiple disciplines. Holds multiple patents including three aligner-related inventions and innovations in micro-implant design. Active member of American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).
