Restorative dentist and biomaterials researcher specializing in aesthetic dentistry and direct composite restorations. Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics with secondary appointment in the Department of Cariology at New York University College of Dentistry.
Over 30 years of clinical and academic experience in aesthetic restorative dentistry. Research focus on dental biomaterials including composite resins, adhesive systems, and implant materials. Developed simplified layering techniques for predictable aesthetic composite restorations using universal composite systems. Pioneer in promoting injectable flowable composites and body-enamel technique for anterior restorations. Maintains private practice in Curitiba, Brazil, exclusively dedicated to aesthetic dentistry.
International lecturer having taught in over 40 countries on aesthetic restorations, composite techniques, and biomaterial selection. Coordinator of multiple postgraduate programs in aesthetic and restorative dentistry in Brazil including programs at CETAO (São Paulo), SENAC (São Paulo), and ILAPEO (Latin American Institute). Former faculty member at Federal University of Paraná for 10 years. Published over 100 scientific papers in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
DDS from Federal University of Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil (1995). Certificate in Restorative Dentistry Residency from Federal University of Paraná (1996). MSc in Biomaterials from Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil (2002), thesis on glass and polyethylene fibers to improve mechanical properties of composites. PhD in Restorative Dentistry from State University of Rio de Janeiro (2009), thesis on transmittance, reflectance, and fluorescence of composite resins. Postdoctoral certificate from New York University (2013) working on plasma application on dentin surfaces and bonding strength analysis. Author of textbooks "TIPS in Esthetic Dentistry" (Artes Medicas, 2011) and "SHORTCUTS in Esthetic Dentistry" (Quintessence, 2017), both translated into three languages. Co-author of "Just" (Quintessence, 2022). Author of over 10 book chapters. Editorial board member of Journal of the Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Dentistry and International Journal of Brazilian Dentistry.
