Pioneiro da Regeneração Óssea Guiada (GBR), realizando primeira cirurgia GBR na University of Bern em outubro 1988. Co-desenvolvedor da superfície de implante micro-rugosa SLA (sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched) com Straumann, revolucionando osseointegração e tornando-se superfície padrão ouro mundialmente. Especialista em procedimentos de regeneração óssea, GBR simultânea e escalonada com colocação de implante, protocolos de implante pós-extração imediatos e retardados e gestão de casos de implante de zona estética. Pesquisa focada em pesquisa translacional em odontologia de implantes, materiais e técnicas GBR, modificações de superfície de implante, prevenção de peri-implantite e resultados a longo prazo de procedimentos regenerativos.

 

Ex-Presidente da European Association for Osseointegration (EAO, 1996-1997) e International Team for Implantology (ITI, 2009-2013). Receptor de numerosos prêmios prestigiosos incluindo André Schroeder Research Prize do ITI (1995), Daniel M. Laskin Award (1996), Honorary Membership Award da American Academy of Periodontology (1997), Brånemark Osseointegration Award da Academy of Osseointegration (2013), e ITI Honorary Fellowship (2017). Editor e autor principal do famoso "GBR Book" publicado pela Quintessence (3ª edição, novembro 2021), referência definitiva sobre regeneração óssea guiada traduzida em múltiplos idiomas. Autor e co-autor de mais de 400 publicações e capítulos de livros em revistas revisadas por pares. Palestrante internacional tendo apresentado mais de 1.000 palestras mundialmente sobre técnicas GBR, tecnologia de superfície de implante e cirurgia de implantes baseada em evidências.
