Especialista em dor orofacial e Reitor da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de Kentucky. Fundador e diretor do Centro de Dor Orofacial na Universidade de Kentucky (estabelecido em 1977), reconhecido como pioneiro na educação sobre DTM e dor orofacial.
Mais de 50 anos de experiência acadêmica e clínica em distúrbios temporomandibulares e manejo da dor orofacial. Desenvolveu o primeiro programa de Mestrado em Ciências em Dor Orofacial nos Estados Unidos, credenciado pela Academia Americana de Dor Orofacial. O Programa de Residência em Dor Orofacial foi um dos primeiros credenciados pela Comissão de Credenciamento Odontológico, formando 65 residentes em tempo integral de 26 países.
Professor e chefe da Divisão de Dor Orofacial, membro do corpo docente em tempo integral na Universidade de Kentucky por 45 anos. Palestrante internacional tendo ministrado mais de 1.300 palestras convidadas em todos os estados dos EUA e 59 países estrangeiros. Reconhecido como "Embaixador Mundial da Dor Orofacial" pelos colegas.
DMD pela Universidade de Kentucky (1974). Provost's Distinguished Service Professor. Autor do livro didático "Tratamento dos Distúrbios Temporomandibulares e Oclusão" (8ª edição), traduzido para 11 idiomas e usado na maioria das escolas odontológicas dos EUA. Editor de "Dor Orofacial: Diretrizes para Classificação, Avaliação e Tratamento" (AAOP), usado como padrões de tratamento em todo o mundo. Mais de 240 publicações em revistas científicas. Ex-presidente da Academia Americana de Dor Orofacial. Diplomata fundador e duas vezes ex-presidente do Conselho Americano de Dor Orofacial. Recebedor do Prêmio Grande Professor da Universidade de Kentucky, Prêmio Acorn do Estado de Kentucky, Prêmio Dentista Internacional do Ano da Academia Internacional de Odontologia, e introduzido no Hall de Exalunos Distinguidos da Universidade de Kentucky.
