Protesista e especialista em oclusão focalizando distúrbios temporomandibulares e reabilitação oclusal. Professor Universitário Honorário na Universidade de Aix-Marseille, França.

Mais de 45 anos de experiência acadêmica e clínica em prótese fixa, oclusão e manejo de DTM. Desenvolvedor do conceito OCTA (Arquitetura Oclusal) para assegurar tratamentos ortodônticos e protéticos através de princípios de design oclusal funcional. Ex-presidente do Departamento de Oclusão e Disfunção e ex-Vice-Reitor responsável pela educação odontológica na Faculdade de Odontologia, Universidade de Aix-Marseille.

Diretor de programas de educação de pós-graduação em oclusão e DTM, e prótese fixa na Universidade de Aix-Marseille. Professor visitante na Universidade de Donau, Áustria. Ex-presidente do Colégio Nacional Francês de Oclusodontologia (1995-1996) e da Academia Internacional de Odontologia Interdisciplinar Avançada (iAAID).

DDS pela Faculdade de Odontologia, Universidade de Aix-Marseille (1978). Certificado em Antropologia (1979) e Prótese Fixa e Oclusodontologia (1980). Mestrado (DSO, 1983). PhD (Doctorat d'Université, 1990). Professor Titular desde 2007. Autor de 8 livros e mais de 160 publicações científicas sobre oclusão, DTM e prótese. Membro da Academia Europeia de Distúrbios Craniomandibulares.

He has been a full time faculty member at the University of Kentucky for 45 years. He is recognized worldwide as an authority in the field of TMD and orofacial pain, lecturing in every state in the USA and 59 different foreign countries. His textbooks have been translated into eleven different foreign languages and have become a standard for teaching throughout the world. His peers have called him the “World Ambassador for Orofacial pain”. He is a highly sought after speaker and has given more than 1300 invited lectures throughout the world. He has received numerous awards, honors and recognitions for his outstanding teaching and educational abilities. Some of these awards include the campus wide University of Kentucky “Great Teacher Award”, the Provost’s Distinguished Service Professorship, the American Academy of Orofacial Pain’s Service Award and the first ever “Distinguished Alumni Award” from the College of Dentistry. In addition, he received the State of Kentucky Acorn Award for the best professor in the state and was inducted into the University of Kentucky Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Okeson has also received “The International Dentist of the Year Award” from the Academy of Dentistry International. This is the highest award recognized by this Academy and was given to him in recognition of his worldwide efforts in providing education in the area of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain. In addition to his two textbooks, he has more then 240 publications in scientific journals. He is founder of the Orofacial Pain Program at the University of Kentucky. He has developed several full-time teaching programs associated with the Center. The Master of Science Degree program he established was the first in the United States to be accredited by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. The Orofacial Pain Residency Program was one of the very first to be accreditated by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. This program has graduated 65 full time residents from 26 different countries. He is active in many national and international organizations and is past president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is also a founding diplomate and twice past president of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Dr. Okeson is presently serving as Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Dr. Okeson is a captivating lecturer with a teaching style that is engaging, logical and based on the available science. He is one of the few individuals in the world capable of bringing all these subjects together into one lecture series.

Mais de 42 anos de experiência clínica, docente e de pesquisa combinada desde graduação em 1984. Especialista em diagnóstico e tratamento de distúrbios temporomandibulares, gestão de dor orofacial, tratamento ortodôntico e sua relação com DTM, terapia manual para condições musculoesqueléticas, terapia cognitivo-comportamental para pacientes com DTM, exercícios mandibulares e tratamento de DTM centrado no paciente. Prática limitada exclusivamente a tratamento ortodôntico e gestão de distúrbios temporomandibulares. Pesquisa focada em fisiopatologia dos músculos mastigatórios, etiologia, diagnóstico e terapia de distúrbios craniomandibulares, correlação entre DTM e ortodontia, mecanismos de dor na região orofacial e eficácia de várias terapias de DTM.

Ex-Presidente da European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders (EACMD, 2010). Ex-Presidente do Neuroscience Group da IADR (International Association for Dental Research, 2011). Ex-Presidente da SIDA (Società Italiana Disfunzioni ed Algie Temporomandibolari - Sociedade Italiana de DTM e Algia, 2012-2013). Receptora de Honorary Degree in Dentistry pela University of Malmö, Suécia (2018). Autora de mais de 170 artigos publicados em revistas italianas e internacionais revisadas por pares. Palestrante internacional tendo apresentado extensivamente por toda Europa, Américas e mundialmente. Co-autora da International Classification of Orofacial Pain (ICOP). Especialista em vários comitês de pesquisa internacionais e nacionais. Revisora para principais revistas internacionais em ortodontia e dor orofacial. Educadora tendo treinado centenas de ortodontistas e especialistas em DTM através de programas de pós-graduação na University of Naples.

Nomeação como Professora Plena em Orthodontics and Clinical Gnathology na University of Naples Federico II. In 2012 he started the Medical Speciality in Stomatology at the Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria - Lisboa Portugal, in 2016 he concluded the residency with 19,6 values.

During this period he designed an important preclinical trial - TEMPOJIMS and started a PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon University.

During the investigation he was awarded with 6 national and international prizes and managed to acquire major knowledge regarding temporomandibular disorders.

Prof. Dr. David Ângelo is the clinical director of Instituto Português da Face, a clinical center in Lisbon mostly dedicated to patients with temporomandibular disorders.
